Wide videos showed letterbox bars in the tiny iOS mini player preview right
after the dismiss morph, which lands the video filling the preview. The
container that takes the shared player view now sets mpv's keepaspect, so
the mini player fills its frame and every other surface keeps the aspect
ratio.
Releasing the dismiss drag now shrinks the player window onto its video and
flies it into the mini player's preview instead of sliding it off screen and
showing the mini player afterwards. The mini player stays mounted under the
expanded player and reports its preview frame, and the window is masked down
to the video while its root view is transformed onto that frame (with the
safe area the transform drops added back, so the content doesn't jump).
The handoff of the shared MPV view is made seamless: a freshly made player
container waits for its first layout before taking a view that is on screen
elsewhere, sizes and redraws it there, and the window hides in that same
frame. Resizing the render view draws the current frame into the recreated
framebuffer right away instead of leaving it blank until the next tick.
Falls back to the slide when no preview target is available (rotated
session, video preview hidden, different window size).
Delete declarations that Periphery reports unused on every platform that
compiles them (iOS, macOS, tvOS), including nine views used only by their
own previews. Platform-gated code still used on another platform, device-
only MPV render paths, migration models, CloudKit record names, App
Intents metadata and unused parameters are kept.
The add-to-playlist, download options and queue sheets were declared in
every view that could open them: the root view (twice, mirrored from
coordinator flags), the expanded player, its portrait and floating
panels, the player controls and the video info view.
AppSheet lists the shared sheets, and .appSheetHost() declares them
once. The app root and the expanded player each host them, and every
presented sheet hosts the next level. Views present through the
presentAppSheet environment action, which reaches the nearest host;
code without a view (and the expanded player itself, whose host sits
in its own body) uses PresentationRouter.request, taken by the
top-most host: the player while it is up, the root otherwise.
The mini player's queue and playlist sheets now go through the host,
replacing the isMiniPlayer*SheetPresented flags.
The iOS 18 overlay layout appended a hardcoded close button after the
preset buttons, and the default mini player preset already includes
Close, so the bar showed two X buttons. Replace the full-width material
bar with the same 420pt capsule macOS uses (shared capsuleLayout), and
only add the fallback close button when the active preset has none.
Inset the iOS 18 overlay 16pt horizontally; clear the bottom tab bar in
compact width and float 12pt above the edge in regular width, where
sidebarAdaptable keeps the tabs at the top.
When enabled (the default), share links to YouTube videos point to the
active source's web watch page instead of youtube.com. Invidious serves
its frontend at the API URL; Piped uses its configured frontend URL.
Videos the active source can't serve (PeerTube, extracted sources) and
sources without a web frontend keep their original links.
The toggle lives in Settings > Layout & Navigation > Sharing on iOS and
macOS, and is shown only when an enabled source has a web watch page.
The previous fix rebuilt the quality chain when converting persisted
models back to videos, but many consumers discarded it again by
rendering bestThumbnail (usually a maxresdefault.jpg that 404s for
older videos) as a single URL with no fallback.
Extract the retry logic from VideoThumbnailView into FallbackLazyImage
and use it at every in-app site that can iterate: player thumbnails
(mini bar, expanded sheet loaders, autoplay previews, tvOS audio-mode
artwork - previously a silent black screen), video info card and tvOS
header, and the tvOS playlist cover.
Sites that fetch or send exactly one URL are rewritten to the
always-available hqdefault variant via Thumbnail.reliableURL (exposed
as Video.reliableThumbnailURL): Now Playing artwork, Top Shelf
snapshots, remote control state, the frozen transition thumbnail,
blurred info background, navigation covers, and playlist covers
derived from a video's first thumbnail in Invidious/Yattee Server
responses.
Also invert RecentPlaylist's upgrade helper, which rewrote covers *to*
maxresdefault, walk the quality chain when caching download thumbnails
for offline artwork instead of giving up after one 404, and expand the
remaining single-thumbnail Piped conversions into full chains.
Persistent per-platform mode that plays only the audio track to save
bandwidth and speed up loads. When enabled, stream selection picks the
best audio-only stream (preferred language, codec, bitrate) and never
fetches the video URL; toggling mid-video reloads at the current
position using the quality-switch path (live vid=no toggling is avoided
due to A/V desync).
- Toggle row in the player quality/settings sheet on iOS, macOS and
tvOS, next to lock controls
- New audioMode control button type (red when active) for player
controls and mini player layouts
- Picking a video quality explicitly turns the mode off; audio track
picks keep it on and now work while audio-only is playing
- Stream URL refresh preserves audio-only playback instead of
resurrecting video
- Queue preloads and history entries resolved before a toggle are
discarded so selection re-runs with the current mode
- tvOS player shows the video thumbnail instead of a black screen
during audio-only playback
- PiP button hidden for audio-only streams
Live streams have no meaningful duration, so the mini player's bottom
progress line collapsed to nothing (or showed a misleading partial fill
on DVR streams). Hide the line for live playback and show a red dot +
LIVE indicator next to the author name instead, matching the expanded
player controls. Applies to both the macOS capsule and iOS overlay
layouts.
Add a queue-count badge to the macOS player controls queue button
(MacOSControlsSectionRenderer) and the shared mini player queue button
(MiniPlayerView), matching the iOS pill button behavior.
Tapping the mini bar video thumbnail (with tap action set to PiP) or its
PiP button while the expanded player window was open started PiP playing
alongside the window. Bring the player window to the front instead when
it is open or opening.
The capsule close button (and context-menu close) only stopped playback and
cleared the queue, leaving the separate macOS player window open on a black
frame. Route both through a shared closeVideo() that also sets
isPlayerExpanded = false, mirroring PlaybackCommands.closeVideo, so the
player window is dismissed.
- Replace the full-width material overlay bar with a compact, centered
capsule (Apple Music style) via a macOS-specific macOSCapsuleLayout
- Extend glassBackground() to use real Liquid Glass on macOS 26 with a
material fallback on macOS 15-25 (mirrors the PlayerOverlayButton pattern)
- Remove the duplicate close button (close now comes only from the
configurable button set)
- Keep the capsule visible in the main window while the separate player
window is open (window mode), still hidden in sheet mode
When PiP is active, the MPV render view shows a black frame since
rendering goes to the PiP sample buffer layer. Overlay the video
thumbnail (preferring DeArrow) on top to cover the black area,
fading it in/out smoothly when PiP starts/stops.
