Geoffrey McRae b411d345d0 [common] event: fix long Linux timeouts ...

Normalize absolute event deadlines with division and remainder, and widen
millisecond conversion before multiplying. This prevents multi-second
waits from producing EINVAL or wrapping to shorter delays.
